Safety & Mission
Assurance
J&P engineers perform safety analyses, studies, and risk assessments of both software and hardware requirements for NASA’s human spaceflight programs, including the International Space Station (ISS), Artemis, Gateway, and Commercial Crew. Our System Engineers identify potential hazards that could occur due to vehicle design and provide recommendations to NASA as to how to prevent those hazards from occurring and/or how to respond should the hazards occur. Our Operations Engineers man the Safety Console during missions, providing data and recommendations for safety-related anomalies. We also support the IT Department, maintaining the computer systems utilized by the S&MA team as well as developing tools to aid in performing Safety & Mission Assurance functions.
System Engineering &
Integration
J&P engineers perform requirements allocation and decomposition, conceptual design, vehicle / system integration, and staged implementation of subsystems/systems. Provide technical leadership, approve design documentation, and generate requirements and interface control documents. Perform engineering studies including system loading and throughput analyses. Generate and present design review materials.
Software Assurance
J&P engineers participate in the requirements definition process and support generation of interface control documents, customer design reviews, and project status. Support integration and acceptance testing procedure development and implementation. Perform software quality control to ensure that the processes, procedures, and products used to produce and sustain the software conform to all requirements and standards specified.
Risk Assessment
Throughout the life of a program, J&P engineers utilize system safety, performance, and R&M analyses of the integrated systems to enable informed decisions of risk acceptance, minimize likelihood of failures, and provide opportunities for mitigating failure effects through recommendations for design changes or operational procedures.
Experience
Our experience spans 20 years of support for NASA’s spaceflight programs:
